Star Wars Outline

So, I am a really big nerd and one of my favorite series of movies is Star Wars. So I have chosen to outline, Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace.

Beginning: The movie starts out with a story already in play with Jedi nights trying to finish a mission they have been sent on. The story builds and reveals more and more as the characters share things.

Middle: The plot really settles in as Qui-Gon Jinn meets little Anikan Skywalker. There are then a series of problems that develope that is important to solve before the movie comes to a close and for the fate of the republic.

Conclusion: The Jedis form a union with the planet of Naboo where they help to fight against the dark side. They then celebrate the success of winning by a happy parade at the end.

Issues paper Thesis

Due to outsourcing jobs in other countries and the bad economy, more mothers around the United States are having to work full time which causes a negative affect for the mothers themselves and their children.

Issues paper Ideas

I was having a hard time thinking of possible topics I could write about. I was talking to my roommate and it came up that I could possibly talk about the affects of full time working mothers throughout the world. It has slowly become more popular throughout the world to have mothers working full time and not being housewives. The affect this can have on children can vary. Or another topic idea was about how movies have globalized throughout the world. America has definitely brought its movies to different countries probably affecting them in many ways.

The RA process. Finally over!

I thought that the Rhetorical analysis paper went really well. At first I was really worried about writing it. I felt like I had no right to critique anyone's work when I felt like I wasn't that amazing of a writer myself. But overall, it went pretty well. I think The hardest thing about writing the RA was trying to figure out my thesis. The thesis was so important for my paper that I wanted to cover everything that I felt was important for this RA. I think this was a little more difficult than writing the opinion editorial because I felt I could say whatever I wanted in that essay. I was stuck to specific guidelines for this paper. I don't really think there would be anything I would change about this process. I thought it was nice that we could pick our own topic out of the book. Overall it went very well.

Tone, Figurative Language, and Diction

For my rhetorical analysis I chose the article, "Put Your Money Where Their Mouths Are." After studying this article awhile, I realized that there isn't much Figurative Language used but rather Tone. The author presents this article with different types of Tone. The written words in this article project the mood of the writer and how he feels about the situation. The author uses different word choice to reflect the seriousness of the issue of children working at too young of an age.

Rhetorical Analysis Thesis

"Put Your Money Where Their Mouths Are", is an effective analytical arguments that argues with shocking statistical data,  well organized information, and emotional statistics that convinced everyday people such as university students that they need to not just protest from their comfortable lives about child labor, but to step in and make a difference.

Put Your Money Where their Mouths Are- Audience worksheet

I chose the article in the Globalization book called "Put your money where their mouths are."
Audiences:
-This article is talking to those people who argue and try to take a stand for child labor.

Current and/or contemporary events of importance:
-This article mainly gives different examples of how when the United States or others tried to help impoverished countries with child labor, it only affected them in making them more impoverished.

Profession/race/socioeconomic status:
-The article was directly addressed to University students.

Ideologies:
- The reason people try to step in is because they feel like child labor is wrong and shouldn't be accepted anywhere.

Issues of Importance:
-The issues are that the children in these impoverished countries need education if anything.

Opponents:
-The opponents in this article is the author saying that people need to step up and instead of just boycotting child labor, they should sponsor school meals in these impoverished countries.

Major fears/worries:
-There are worries that children won't come to school because there is no food there for them.

This article was very persuasive in stating that even though we might think we know what is best for people in other countries, we just need to step up and help them without trying to change them.

I chose this picture because the article directly talks about how children would make soccer balls in Pakistan to make money, but when China stepped in to stop it, the market dropped from 65% to 45%.

Opinion Editorial Reflection

Overall, I think the writing of the Opinion Editorial went really well. I liked how we were given enough time to get it written. Also, being able to turn in the Opinion Editorial as a rough draft first made it less stressful on my part. I loved that I was able to have enough time to edit it and make it the paper I wanted it to be. There is not a whole lot I would change about this process, other than after I get my graded paper back, I will know how to better write my papers for this class.

This picture I chose, is I just feel that all we need to write a good paper is some Inspiration!

Peer review = Success!

I always love doing peer review. I feel like when you get the opinion and help from your peers, it helps make your papers so much better. Also, in high school, I remember getting my paper edited was never any help because my classmates weren't that good at writing papers. However, here, I felt like it went really well because we actually care about our grades. I thought the process we used was really interesting. I like how we read the papers out loud. Reading your paper out loud is so helpful to notice little mistakes. It was really cool that after we read them aloud, we exchanged them and edited the papers ourselves. I think it made the process much more smoother. I would definitely like to do this peer review process with our other papers!

Anything and Everything

I just love the feeling of finishing a paper. I think its one of the best feelings in the world to be able to sum up all of your thoughts onto one paper. The best part is being able to turn it in, being confident that it was a well written paper. My paper still has some work to do, but I am hoping it turns out well in the end. I remember I was so nervous when I came to college, thinking that my papers were going to be eaten to death by teachers. But, I feel like the teachers here really care that we do well and I feel comfortable asking people for help. Overall, even though papers absolutely suck to write, it is worth it in the end.

Opinion Editorial is good to go!

I have decided to totally go a different route for this paper than I was thinking. I was talking to one of my friends in class today when it came up that in high school, it was almost expected that we should know what we want to major in. When you think about it, the classes you take in high school in no way prepare you for what you think you want to do with your life. How can adults expect 17-18 year old students to know what they want to do?
In my paper I hope to include that maybe a helpful way to fix this problem, is somewhere in high school introduce students to different majors and job opportunities. After being here at college, I have already decided to change my major because I felt pressured to choose one so soon before I was even ready. So my argument is that college's such as BYU and its faculty should not expect students to know their major so soon when they get to college.

Paper ideas!

So I have thought a lot about this paper and recently in my Intro to family processes class we have been talking about families and the definition of them. So I was thinking maybe I could do something of that sort by writing my opinion on what I believe a family consists of. I was also thinking I could write about music and how I feel that music influences people's lives because it is a huge part in my life as well.

What do you want to do with your life?

As human beings, we tend to create goals for ourselves. Its human nature to be always looking to the future and what our potential is. For myself, I have always wanted to strive and be the best person I can be. I hope that I can graduate from BYU with a major in Special Education and a minor in Music. As any girl, I wish to get married sometime in the next couple years of my life.
I've always had that goal to start a family and get cealed in the temple to my eternal companion. I want to be able to serve to the best of my ability in my church callings and be a light to those who need it. In my life I hope to bless the lives of those around me and raise my children in the gospel. Overall, I hope my life is full of happiness and joy. I have been so blessed in my life and I hope I never take it for granted.
